It seems quite hard to believe, but the Ego9 is the 5th Generation of Eclipse Ego. Few would have thought, back in 2004, that the first Eclipse Ego would have had such wide-spread and immediate impact across globe as it has had. And yet here we are with the Ego9. The latest incarnation of the most popular tournament marker in the world.
The Eclipse Ego has always been built around the solid foundations of Reliability, Performance, Light-Weight and Simplicity. And the Ego9 is no exception. In fact, it is obvious from the outset that ground-up re-working of the Ego platform that was required in the development of the Ego9 was undertaken with the sole purpose of improving on every one of those key areas. Reliability has been improved by removing potential weak areas of the previous design but without sacrificing any performance. In fact performance in almost every area has been increased substantially over the previous generation of Ego.
And though there have been additions of new elements to items such as the S3 Self Purging In-Line Regulator and the body lengthened in order to incorporate a larger valve chamber, the weight of the marker has not increased by a single ounce over the outgoing model. It is clear that compromise was not a consideration in the design and implementation of the Ego9. And for that reason alone, it makes the Ego9 simply the best Ego ever!
Direct Porting System (DPS)
and Solenoid Valve
The Ego9 utilizes a brand new ultra high performance solenoid valve that is mounted and ported directly into the integrated Zick Rammer. Bigger porting with more direct channels on both the inlet and exhaust ports straight into the rammer chamber mean the Ego9 reaches cycle speeds way in excess of any previous generation of Ego.
Off-Set Bores
By Off-Setting the valve chamber and the rammer/valve chambers in the lower bore, it has allowed the Upper Bolt bore and the Lower Rammer bore to move considerably closer together. By moving them closer together it reduces the off-axis forces generated during firing, and as such, reduces kick in the gun.
Larger Valve Chamber
The Ego9 has a 30% larger Valve Chamber volume than any previous Ego. This has reduced the operating pressure to only 160psi and helps reduce the sound signature significantly.
Cure2 Bolt
The Cure2 Bolt has been developed to reduce the chances of ball-breaks caused by second ball clipping when using force-feed loaders. The Cure2 also uses a new extended and cupped face to ensure there is zero roll-back of the ball in the breech and maintain a perfect ball stack in the feed tube.
S3 In-Line Regulator
The new S3 regulator allows more than double the air-flow of any previous Eclipse In-Line regulator. Flow has been increased through the adjuster and the new piston. Also a first in this type of regulator, the design also incorporates a self purging mechanism that prevents the marker storing a shot after the tank has been removed.
Zick Kit Rammer System
Carried over from 2008, the Ego9 incorperates the now-famous Zick Kit. The Zero-Kick Kit reduces the impact of the rammer and bolt on the return stroke, and closely controls the acceleration of the bolt and rammer on the forward stroke making it more gentle on paint.
Deftek Feed
The Deftek feed system has become an Eclipse Institution. The subtle off-set of the vertical feed to the breech greatly reduces LBB (Last Ball Bounce). LBB is the phenomena of free-falling balls in the feed tube bouncing out of the breech just as the bolt is starting to cycle forwards. This causes chops and barrel breaks. The Deftek feed effectively helps combats this issue.
LCD Display
Another Eclipse regular is the transflective LCD module. Mounted in the back of the frame for quick Heads-Up viewing, it quickly displays in-game information, such as:
- Game time
- Rate of fire
- Shot count
- Eye status
but is also used to quickly navigate and set every user-definable parameter in the software.
Dual Selectable Trigger Switching
Introduced in 2007, the dual trigger switching option can be found here in the Ego9. Every Ego9 user has the option to quickly switch between Optical or Micro-switch operation. No need for aftermarket boards to customise your trigger feel. In the Ego9, whichever system you prefer, it’s standard!
Dual Trigger Return Mechanism
Do you prefer Magnetic trigger return or Spring trigger return? With the Ego9 you have the option of both as standard. Both magnetic and spring return are fully adjustable from zero to maximum. Use one or the other, or both together.
Integrated Audible Sound Device
New for 2009 to the Eclipse Family is an integrated beeper on all circuit boards. But rather than just use the beeper for audible alarms on the Game Timer, the new beeper can also be configured to give audible confirmation of power up, power down and also button pushes.
